[The video feed opens on a boy sitting on a bench. It looks like the sun is setting already, so either someone got a late start today or this boy only just learned how to use the 'Gear. The boy isn't really all that remarkable, outside of a very serious expression. The background appears to be New Bark Town, so get ready for some of those New Trainer Questions.]

Hello. I was told I should talk to this device to get some answers about this place.

[He rests his hands on his knees and leans forward, still staring the device down.]

Why are there houses on the surface?

[...Well apparently we're just going to get straight to the point today.]

It should be dangerous for anyone to live up here.

[He's silent for a long time, still staring at the device like it's going to magically give him some answers. A beep comes from the 'Gear which seems to startle him a little.]

I also want to know about the creature that came out of this. [Rossiu holds up a Pokéball.] It was pink and blue and immediately went into this strange device. It won't come out.

[That doesn't seem to bother him all that much, actually. His very serious expression hasn't shifted at all. After another few seconds of silence, Rossiu glances upward at the snow still falling.]

Finally, what is this? I've never seen anything like this before. It's much colder than it is back home.

[At least he's dressed a bit better for the snow than most of his friends...]

[He figures that if the rest of Team Gurren are here they'll get in contact with him. With that, Rossiu gets up from the bench and leaves and the 'Gear turns off.]

[WHO CARES ABOUT PLOT HOLES, WE HAVE GIANT COMBINING ROBOTS!!!!]

I didn't know any other sort of life, so I didn't think it was all that bad. Things have changed a lot since I went to the surface. It's not like this place. It's much warmer and there's no snow. The surface feels very desolate, not like this place, or even underground. At first I kind of missed my village. I've gotten used to it now, but it was really different. Adai didn't even have electricity, so there was a lot to learn about.

Nah, don't worry about it. [A shrug.]

This place is a little different than I'm used to, myself. Or it was, I've kind of learned to live with it.

What was the world you came from like? Ah, if you don't mind me asking.

[solas_ion]

Depends; I've kind of been a few different places. [Fuyuki City wasn't exactly ancient Ireland.] It was all on the surface, at least--nothin' quite like what you're talking about.

How strange. I'm very glad to hear that other worlds aren't like mine, but I still have a hard time imagining a world where everything is built above ground. This place is already so fascinating.

[He actually looks kind of pleased!]

Guess it would be, yeah. I can't really imagine living somewhere I couldn't see open sky, but that's just me.

It wasn't something I thought about. In Adai, we were told that the surface was the land of the gods. Going there wasn't something we were allowed to do unless we were chosen. I used to think it was a good thing to be allowed to go there.

[That pleased look fades pretty quickly.]

I'm very glad I got to go to the surface though. I don't think I would have been happy living in Adai for my whole life.
